Applying Calibrated Profile to Scans, Basic Editing, and Saving

Note: This is part of a series of Scanning Guides. Start HERE.

Applying Calibration to scans is a similar step to the "QC Testing your Calibration" step. From that step you should already have your icc profile in the correct directory.
  • Open your RAW scanned .tiff file in Photoshop (or GIMP etc).
  • Apply the calibrated profile: Edit > Assign Profile > VueScan Device Profile (or appropriately named profile). This should give your image a "finalized" look.
  • Straighten out the image. The easiest way to do this is use the "Free Transform" tool and alight the edge of your scanned object with one of the corners of Photoshop's canvas (this helps figure out if it needs any slight rotation), then crop around it.
  • For color application, apply the profile in Photoshop: Edit > Assign Profile > VueScan Device Profile.
  • File > Save (only this saving method will retain RAW data in the tiff).
